One thing’s for sure: the internet in five years will not be the same as today. We’re at an inflection point rather like the arrival of social media or the mobile revolution. AI content is shaking things up at a fundamental level. It could either undermine the internet as we knew it, or push us to rebuild a better, more consciously curated online world.
It’s provocative to imagine that maybe this crisis of AI overload is what pushes humanity to reinvent how we use the internet for the better – prioritizing quality, authenticity, and community. In that sense, the sludge could inadvertently fertilize a new garden of creativity, if we respond wisely.
Only time will tell. Meanwhile, keep your critical thinking hat on, support the creators you love (especially the human ones!), and don’t lose that uniquely human trait of hope. The bots might be rising, but so are we.
